Constructive Rest: A Core Alexander Technique Practice @ University of Cincinnati
Jan 25 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Back Pain? Tight Neck, Stiff Shoulders, Achy Hips??? What if something as simple as lying on the floor could help?

Constructive Rest, sometimes known as “Active Rest”, “Semi-Supine” or the “Alexander Lie-Down” is an extremely effective self-help tool for Alexander Technique students, and for anyone else who wants a simple, practical way of releasing excess tension from their body. It’s easy to learn but a guided ‘walk-through’ is recommended to make it work beyond mere relaxation. A little attention and the right set up can make Constructive Rest influence your posture and the way you use your body in all of your daily activities, which can ultimately keep you poised, pain-free and positive.

This 90-minute small-group workshop at UC’s Communiversity is a fun, low-key and relatively low-cost way to learn this simple practice. Join us if you can!

Improv Ergonomics for the Workplace @ University of Cincinnati
Feb 15 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Another tough day at your desk or behind the wheel? Learning to sense your “sit bones” can help.

Well-meaning employers and desperate workers spend significant amounts of money on adjustable office chairs, lumbar supports, anti-fatigue mats and other ergonomic devices and yet more often than not, these aids don’t really solve our problems. This workshop will show you how to choose and make the most of available ergonomic tools, how to improvise your own, and easy ways to engage your own postural support. A smart body can minimize risk, eliminate the pain, discomfort and fatigue associated with prolonged sitting, standing, lifting or driving, and increase ease and effectiveness. Based on the insights of the Alexander Technique, this workshop is suitable for people of all fitness levels.
